Personal reflection:
Convergent and Divergent thinking and mindmaping
Hi everybody! Welcome to my new post, in wich you will learn a bit more about C&D thinking and mindmaping.
What is a computer? This question was made by my teacher in my informatics class. It seems like it has a very simple answer, but it actually has a very complex one. The first thing that comes to your head is probably the divice that is one your desk with a keyboard and the mouse, but it is so much more!
To complete this assignment, our theacher showed is a very interesting video about convergent vs. divergent questions to help us with our research. For those of you who do not know what this is, i will explain is shortly.
Well, the reaserch process begins with picking a topic, in our case is was "What is a compuer". Normaly we use focus questions that give you the direction you need to not get overwelmed doing your research because you have a big amount of information. There are two types of focus questions: Convergent and Divergent.
Convergent questions give us very little to say, because they are the kind of questions that get you to thate one answer. They require a much more basic and understandin level of thinking. They often begin with: Who? What? Were? When?
On the other hand, we have the Divergent questions. They are the kind of questions that let us explore more about the topic you are researching and consider all the possibilities. They might even lead you to more questions and that is a good thing! They can start with: Suppose... Wow could? What might?
The level of thinking is clearly higher than the convergent questions and that is why I prefer them for schoolwork, for a research paper. They make you think outside the box and beyond the basic topic. I recommend them, because they make you think and teachers love that in our papers!
This is me working on the assignment!
After collecting information for the topic, my partner and I created a mindmap and put all of it there. We used a tool recommended by our teacher, called "Mindomo". It is very good and easy to use.
My opinion about mindmaping is that it is a great way to explain a complexe topic like ours and it is easyer to do as right a text. I use mindmaping a lot for studying for exams at school and it helps me to remember many things about a certain topic.
That is it for this time. Stay tuned!
